In the Image - Beds and appliances

In 2002, In The Image delivered more than 2,000 beds and cribs to families in need throughout the greater Grand Rapids area. Beds are the most-requested item for In The Image.
In The Image receives beds from many different sources. Many come from people calling us to pick up their used bedding, but we also partner with local businesses to get used beds on a regular basis.
We’d like to thank and encourage our business partners.

Sleep Doctor and Jonathan Stevens
These two bedding retailers pick up customers’ old bedding when delivering new mattresses. Twice a week, In The Image trucks swing by their warehouse to pick up donated mattresses, box springs and frames.

Select Comfort
Select Comfort also takes customers’ old beds. Their drivers stop by our locations with donations twice a week.

Local Hotels
We encourage local hotels to direct their used beds to In The Image. We regularly make calls and receive calls in regard to donating used beds from a variety of local hotels.

Other Organizations
Cornerstone University and other institutions with beds on hand also donate beds to us. We regularly contact these organizations for contributions.

What happens to unusable bedding?
We like to ensure that our customers receive usable furnishings and bedding. About 50 percent of the beds we receive are beyond their useful life, or are unusable as is. These items go to the landfill.
As a result, we strongly encourage the donation of quality bedding, to ensure our customers receive beds they can use. It’s part of our commitment to the communities we serve—by meeting needs with dignity and serving them In The Image of Christ.

In The Image also picks up and delivers good, used major appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, washers and dryers. We ask that all donated appliances be in good working condition, and restrict our donations for stoves and dryers to be gas, not electric.
The reason for this is simple. Most of the homes and apartments we deliver to are not equipped with 220 outlets to power electric stoves and dryers. For this reason, we only accept gas stoves and dryers.
